Aurora Fox Arts Center (Fox Aurora Theater)

-A A +A
Fox Aurora Theater
1946. 1982 renovation, Baer and Hickman. 9900 E. Colfax Ave.

The distinctive cylindrical second-story facade of ribbed metal panels above a cantilevered canopy and dramatic vertical sign remain from the original movie theater. Quonset construction developed by the military for temporary structures has proved durable; in fact, almost indestructible. Streamline Moderne Carrera glass and the metal marquee were later additions. A fire in 1981 closed the theater and led to its rebirth as Aurora's arts center.
