Victoria Bed and Breakfast (Dwight-Nicholson House)

-A A +A
Dwight-Nicholson House
c. 1875. 1889–1895, addition, Balcolm and Rice. 1305 Pine St.

Carpenter Jason L. Dwight is thought to have built the original small frame house as well as the stone carriage house. An elaborate 1890s renovation greatly enlarged the house and dressed it in Colonial Revival guise for Colonel John H. Nicholson. Improvements included a new entrance in a central enclosed and pedimented bay of the full-width porch, fronted by a Palladian window. Carved wood trim, roof cresting, and a recessed second-story patio fronted by arches further distinguish this resplendent house, reborn as a bed and breakfast.
