This L-shaped cottage reflects the influence of Andrew Jackson Downing’s pattern books, with its picturesque asymmetrical massing and ornamental bargeboards. The 200 block of W. Bolton Street is one of the most varied yet harmonious ensembles of residential architecture in Savannah, displaying various scales, heights, shapes, and styles. The houses at numbers 210–220 (1872) form one of the handsomest examples of Savannah elevated town houses, illustrating the lyrical effects that the raised stoops and accentuated lintels bring to an otherwise plain set of brick buildings. Dramatic double-galleried houses a block to the south at 209–217 W. Waldburg Street illustrate the diversity of house forms in this area.
