A fireproof library of marble, concrete, and plaster was built to house the immense collection of books and papers on Georgia and their family history amassed by bibliophiles George Wymberley Jones De Renne and his three children, Wymberley Jones, Letitia, and Kentwyn De Renne. The eldest, Wymberley Jones, outlived his two siblings and commissioned this small, yet monumental, classical porticoed library building to protect the family legacy. The collection was acquired by the University of Georgia in 1938, forming an important part of Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library. The building is now part of the Wormsloe Institute for Environmental History.
