House

-A A +A
c. 1870. 301 State St.

A number of remarkable features are gathered together in this grand-scale brick dwelling. Its third floor is encased in a dormered mansard roof, as in a French Second Empire house. A “correct” tower rises where the two wings join, but the entrance porch at the base of the tower is really Eastlake. Instead of being elevated on a raised basement, the building sits directly on the ground. These aspects and later additions have created an unusual building.
