The Colonial Revival brick courthouse is the third in Princess Anne, replacing an 1833 gable-front building. Its classical design harkens back to the county’s eighteenth-century heyday, as did other civic-minded buildings of the period, including the Bank of Somerset (1903; 11732 Somerset Avenue) and Peoples Bank of Somerset (c. 1907; 30513 Prince William). The courthouse is distinguished by shallow central pedimented pavilions to the front and Somerset Avenue side, and by contrasting granite Ionic-columned portico, jack-arch keystone lintels, stringcourse, and dentiled cornice. Its architects, Frank and Henry Davis, were from Baltimore, while contractor W. P. Pusey and Sons hailed from Snow Hill.
