This Mediterranean-styled brick structure with red-tile hipped roofs has a tall central waiting room block flanked by long, one-story wings, which housed offices to the north and a baggage room to the south. The lavish marble-floored passenger hall, lit by large arched windows and high transoms, has been converted to a ballroom. The 940-foot-long passenger sheds were reconstructed during the rehabilitation completed in 2007. The depot was especially busy during World Wars I and II when hundreds of thousands of soldiers, including the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, were on the way to Camp Shelby. Today the center accommodates Amtrak and bus service.
