Campus Theatre

-A A +A
1949, Pettigrew and Worley; 1995 rehabilitated, Alan Nelson. 214 W. Hickory St.

This Moderne theater operated as a popular student gathering place until 1989. Acquired by the Greater Denton Arts Council in 1990, the theater has been accurately restored inside and out for use by local performing arts groups. The buff brick building and its lower corner block are joined by the tower’s vertical green sign, beneath which an angular marquee and canopy cover the circular, freestanding, red granite ticket booth. The world premiere of Bonnie and Clyde, which was filmed in the region, with its stars Warren Beatty, Estelle Parsons, and Michael J. Pollard in attendance, was held at the theater in 1967.
