Evers Hardware Building

The Evers Hardware Company occupied this site from 1884 to 1997. The 1913 remodeling of the building resulted in a two-story structure in dark brown brick. The first floor has two recessed entrances, framed by glass storefronts, with transoms above the canopy, typical of the period. Below the gabled brick parapet is a pressed metal entablature. The most unusual feature is the large second-floor window, extending the full width of the building without any evidence of an arch or lintel supporting the masonry. It is composed of central fixed glass units flanked by double-hung units in the manner of the Chicago School.
