St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

-A A +A
1905. 102 Magnolia St.

This Gothic Revival church was built by descendants of German immigrants who settled in the area in 1850s. Local red sandstone is laid in random rectangular courses with large rock-faced quoins and window jambs. The church has a steep gabled roof and a projecting two-stage, square tower with a tall spire in the center of the facade. Contrasting buff brick is used for the pointed arches of windows and doors.

Nearby at 321 and 323 Austin Street are two small houses built in 1891 of the distinctive local red sandstone. To the east at number 326 is a large stone barn of 1881, an unusual farm building in this part of Texas.
