Billed as the smallest public library in Virginia, the diminutive Pembroke branch of the Giles County library system is a front-gabled frame building ornamented with extensive sawn and turned woodwork. Only one small room behind a sheltering front porch makes up the plan of the building, which has served as the village of Pembroke's lending library since the early twentieth century. The building is thought to have originally served as a small store or office.
