U.S. 40, successor highway to the National Road, traverses southern Ohio County from east to west. Several early buildings related to the pike remain in Tridelphia, one mile east of Wheeling, but a former tavern about a mile farther east at this small crossroads remains the county's most tangible reminder of stagecoach and Conestoga wagon days.
