Stanley has one of the better designed and more successfully preserved World War I memorial buildings in North Dakota. Many buildings like this in the United States have been abandoned or neglected. The Mountrail County Memorial building in Stanley is composed of multicolored brick in complex chevron and basketweave patterns with sandstone pilaster capitals and trim. An Art Deco leaded glass transom window positioned above the dedicatory memorial stone ornaments the entrance.
