Downtown Commercial District

-A A +A
1890s-present. Bounded roughly by the Soo Line tracks, Burdick Expwy., and Broadway

Minot’s position on two major rail lines allowed it to become the dominant trade center for industrial and agricultural products in northwestern North Dakota. The buildings in this district illustrate how the state’s boom and bust agricultural economy played a role in shaping them, as well as the maturation of the community supporting a variety of institutions. There is a diversity of architectural styles that represent historical developments and architectural trends in the city during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
