Parker Double House

Double houses are rare in this rural state, and this brick one is the best of three Greek Revival examples remaining in the Addison County area. It was built for two brothers, George and William Parker, who each occupied one side. George was a dry goods merchant with a shop on Main Street, and William was a principal of Hayes, Falardo, and Parker, a local manufacturer of sash and architectural elements. Unlike many wood-products manufacturers, William Parker chose to build in brick and used cast-iron lintels and decorative entrance columns. The large, high-quality six-over-six sash windows and gable-end triangular light are no doubt his products. Inside, nicely detailed stairways and chimneypieces show off his millwork and local Greek Revival design.
