Miller-Thornburg Store

-A A +A
1854. Southwest corner of Main St. and Central Ave.
  • (West Virginia Collection within the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division)

Although the first floor of this Greek Revival commercial building has been aggressively “colonialized” in recent years, the second story still displays original stone windowsills and lintels and a double-row, sawtooth-brick cornice similar to that at the Miller House ( CA4). According to a wall plaque, the building has served variously as a general store, Masonic Lodge, stagecoach stop, and tavern.
