  • St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church (State Historic Preservation Office, West Virginia Division of Culture and History, Rodney Collins)

High on Loveberry Ridge, in the remote western part of Lewis County, this immaculately maintained country Gothic frame church stands to one side of an equally well-maintained cemetery. A tower with entrances on each side of its first stage fronts a long, five-bay, rectangular nave. The cemetery's chief monument is a large cast metal Calvary, painted white, that honors Thomas Aquinas Quirk (1844–1937). Bishop Whelan assigned Quirk to Lewis County in 1884, and he served the remaining fifty-three years of his life here. Construction of this church, third on a site that a local development company donated in 1849, was one of his accomplishments. In addition to Quirk's monument, the cemetery contains numerous earlier monuments identifying the Irish counties and towns from which the first parishioners came.
