At the other end of the entertainment spectrum from Colonial Williamsburg is this giant theme park. To talk about it as architecture is perhaps ludicrous, but it is designed by the St. Louis firm Anheuser-Busch has employed to design breweries, housing developments, and theme parks. Peckham and Guyton had confected the “Olde Country” for Busch Gardens beginning in 1974–1975, and the successor firm produced designs for its “Escape from Pompeii” water ride in 1994–1995 and its “Alpengeist” rollercoaster, which opened in 1997.
