Hard Times Hotel (Wolff Building)

-A A +A
Wolff Building
1887. 201 2nd St. (southeast corner of Rosita Ave.) (NR)

William Wolff amassed a fortune in mining and built the first hotel in Westcliffe, a two-story brick affair with a rough-faced sandstone facade trimmed with the same stone in smooth and cross-hatched blocks. The front parapet is supported by full-height corner pilasters and has a central signature pediment. Two 8-foot-high windows flank the door, all with round-arched surrounds of stone blocks. A low stone wall in front of the building retains iron rings for hitching horses. Formerly the National Hotel, the building has been restored and renamed the Hard Times Hotel.
