With fifteen identical units creating an urban wall along an entire three-hundred-foot-long tything, the Gordon Block (see page 47) could be seen as the quintessential Savannah elevated town house development. Each house is three stories above a fully raised basement and has an identical carriage house behind a service yard. Large sandstone lintels over the doors and windows contrast with the light-colored stucco surface of their facades. Each has a curved sandstone staircase with a cast-iron railing leading to the elevated main entrance, adding a lyrical note to their impressively repetitive effect.
