PORTER HOUSE

-A A +A
1830s, 1850s; 2005 renovated. 233 N. Oak St.

Moved here in 2004 from its farm location southeast of Raymond, this house revealed its history during the extensive renovation that followed. The six-bay, en suite rear wing with a chimney of local stone appears to have been the original house, possibly dating to the late 1830s when the Standard family owned the property. The more formal Greek Revival center-hall planter’s cottage that now fronts the house probably was added after 1853 during the Porters’ ownership. Pedimented lintels top all the openings onto the gallery, and jib doors under the windows allow easy passage to front rooms.
