Western Nevada Community College, Fallon Campus

-A A +A
1981, Maurice J. Nespor. Northeast corner of Auction Rd. and Campus Way
  • Western Nevada Community College, Fallon Campus (Bret Morgan)

The community college campus has three buildings adjacent to Fallon's convention center in the north part of town. The angular, lowlying structures employ the same forms and materials and are arranged roughly in a row from west to east. Nespor designed a cost-effective campus, in terms of both construction and operation, by using simple finishes and orienting the buildings to take advantage of winter sunlight but screening out summer sun. Large concrete triangular and rectangular members at the corners of the buildings meet roofs dominated by wide cornices of vertical wood boards. These supports allow the walls to be made primarily of large glass panes in steel frames.
