Charles Peck House

-A A +A
c. 1892. 63 Clifton Park.

Melrose Highlands occupies steep wooded land above the city, with its Clifton Park area containing characteristic houses of the late nineteenth century. The Peck House at 63 Clifton Park retains its unusual architectural character. The porch trim and brackets are cut in geometric shapes and sheathed in wood shingles, although vinyl siding applied to the side elevations somewhat detracts from the original design. Charles Peck, the original owner, was a carriage maker. Most of the developers and architect-builders responsible for the late-nineteenth-century houses, such as the Peck House, in this neighborhood have not been identified. At least one Boston architect, Elmer R. B. Chapman, however, lived and worked in Melrose Highlands.
