Although DeLongchamps designed Classical Revival buildings at the time this school was built, the Oats Park Grammar School is a plain building with only a few classical elements. The one-story brick building has a broad, horizontal layout and symmetrical massing and fenestration. The principal classical form, a pedimented pavilion centered on the main facade, contains the front entrance. Five years later DeLongchamps designed the north and south wings. The building is currently undergoing a major renovation that will transform it into an arts center containing a gallery and theater.
The school stands at the edge of Oats Park, an open area in the center of the Oats Park Addition, an early twentieth-century subdivision located at the east end of town. Constructed at the time of the completion of Lahontan Dam, the school was poised to accommodate an influx of children as part of Fallon's rapidly growing population.
