Granite Hotel (Clayton Building)
1882. 1456–1460 Larimer St.
This masonry gem, whose pink, purple, and gray stone skin shines in sunlight, is located on the site of city founder William Larimer's 1858 log cabin. Carved, dressed, and quarry-face granite, rhyolite, and sandstone rise to a large, bracketed cornice topped by a balustrade. Rejuvenated for retail and office purposes, this landmark retains its original skylight, stained glass windows, and cast iron columns.
