Center in the Square (McGuire Building)

-A A +A
McGuire Building
1914; 1983 rehabilitation, Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern; 2013 renovation and addition, Spectrum Design. 1 Market St. SE

Bustling with activity, this five-story L-shaped brick building, once a furniture store and warehouse building, is now a cultural conglomerate housing arts, science, and history museums and societies. The renovation of 2013 includes a sustainable rooftop with dining areas, a garden, and a butterfly habitat. The building's location downtown thus energizes the often-rarified atmosphere of cultural institutions.
