Edbrooke House

-A A +A
1893, Frank E. Edbrooke. 931 E. 17th Ave.
  • (Damie Stillman)

Denver's style-setting architect of the late nineteenth century designed this house for himself. Queen Anne massing is highlighted by skillfully employed Neoclassical detail. Raised brick courses accentuate the window arches, and grouped Doric columns distinguish the pedimented porch. Smaller Tuscan columns accent the set-back second-story porch above it. Stone banding at the main-floor sill level is integrated into the porch balustrade, while a second-story band becomes the common sill of three windows that paraphrase Palladio. The Edbrooke-designed house next door to the east (1896) has been converted to a bed and breakfast inn.
